FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How and where do I start?(2) ▶
1. Option Fill in My Profile completely !!!▶
a.  First fill in all the basic details such as Call Sign, Name etc.
b,  Name and location is optional but convenient for other users. Do fill in Country
c.  What is also important is the GPS location. Find the coordinates of your exact location on the map, or e.g. of the centre of your town. Don't forget to save !!!
The advantage of this is that when you create a QSO log with someone who is also on this platform, the distance is automatically displayed in your QSO log in KM.
The QSO log is set to private by default but by checking a box you can share your own QSO log with others.
d.  In the top right there is a button to set yourself Online or Offline . When online you are visible on the map with a red dot. When logging in you always go Online automatically. If you want to go offline, click the button.
e.  You can then indicate how many times per day you want to receive an email from the Skip Info or Direct for every change !! A number of emails per day
f.  Then indicate in which language you want to receive your messages.
g. You can also indicate which languages you speak. This information is also visible when clicking on the red dot on the map.
h. You can also upload a photo or avatar so that users have a visual. Also visible on the map when the red dot is clicked.

How does the messages option work?▶
With the messages option, one currently has 2 options.

1. Creating a memo for yourself, a kind of notepad.
Create a message or note and at the selection button Choose recipient select the first option Myself (memo) and then save it.

2. Sending a message to users.
Again create a message or note and then at the selection button Choose recipient select the desired user or contact.
There are of course users from other countries and the system works in such a way that one can simply type the message in their own language and then send it.
The recipient will see a number 1, 2 etc. next to the Messages button showing how many new messages there are.
They can read the messages in their own language because the message is automatically translated into the recipient's language upon sending,
The recipient can then reply ALSO in their own language and the sender of the first message can also simply read the reply in their own language.
So someone writes e.g. in Dutch (or another language) a message to someone who e.g. has Italian as their native language.
Both people can write back and forth in their own language and also read it in their own language.

One has the option to filter messages by All - Private - Memo - Public

IMPORTANT !!  When the message is sent, it takes a number of seconds (from 1 to 10 depending on the size of the message) before the message has been translated.
So please wait until the page refreshes itself !!

For questions and/or problems please send a message to Admin-Rein --> 30RB01 or to info@gocrazy.nl

Explanation of the Updates !!(2) ▶
What is new / different in the update of 05-07-2026▶
Explanation of the software update, carried out on 05-07-2026.

There are now 2 buttons in your option My Profile to set yourself online.
1 x a button for Online Website.  When you turn this on, you are only online for the website.
1 x a button to set yourself On Air. This means that you are actually sitting behind your transmitter and seeking contact with other users.

It works as follows:

1. When you log in you automatically come Online for the website.
2. In the My Profile option an extra button has been added with On Air - Off Air. So switching on and off.
3. In the old version the dot on the map turned red when you were simply online. So it will now only turn red when you go On Air.

On the main page above the Call Signs / Names a button has also been added. You can now filter by All stations - Website only - On Air only.

On the right side of the main page you can now also see in green Online Website and in red On Air. So behind the transmitter !!

Should there be any questions or problems, I would love to hear about them.
Ideas and/or additions to this tool are always welcome !!!

Kind regards from Alicante

What is new / different in the update from 07-07-2026 - QSO log▶
In the QSO log option an extra line has been added with the fields  Location, Country, GPS latitude - GPS longitude

In the old situation the distance (in km) was only calculated if both people had entered the latitude and longitude in their profile.

But in practice you also have a lot of contact with other people who do not use this Gocrazy platform.
So calculating distance was not possible.

Now with the new update this is possible. If you want to know the distance between yourself and your contact then enter a city, country and the GPS coordinates via the GPS locator (the Choose on map button).
If the city and country are known then you can for example choose the center of the city via the GPS locator. In this way the distance is reasonably reliable.

After saving the data the distance in km is immediately visible.

Your QSO logs are now displayed more extensively.
The export of your QSO log has also been adjusted with the new fields.

Keep following the FAQ regarding all updates that are still to come !!!

Why is Ebre the reference station on the Skip page?▶

Ebre (Observatori de l'Ebre, Spain) is set on the Skip page as the fixed reference for the 11m judgement.

The dashboard reads a list of European GIRO ionosondes every hour — Ebre, El Arenosillo, Juliusruh, Dourbes, Pruhonice, Warsaw, Athens, Rome and Sodankyla — and uses Ebre as long as that station delivers a fresh measurement (no older than 2 hours) with a usable MUF. If Ebre goes offline, the system automatically switches to the next available fresh station, ensuring a judgement is always displayed.

To prevent an erroneous measurement (for example an Es layer that is read as F2 in summer) from distorting the picture, the dashboard calculates the median of all measured MUF values and marks any value that significantly exceeds it — more than 1.6 times the median — with an amber warning.

Such an outlier does not count towards the judgement. Measurements older than three days are not displayed at all.

The judgement itself follows from the measured MUF: from 30 MHz good, from 27 MHz moderate, below that poor via the F2 layer. In addition, Sporadic-E is approximated as foEs times 5, using the same thresholds.

Why is the orange dotted line at the value of Ebre, while another station (for example Athens) shows a different MUF?▶

The band opening graph and the orange dashed line always show the measured MUF from the reference station — by default Ebre.

Each band (10m, 11m, 12m and beyond) is coloured green (open) or red (closed) by that single reference value, not by the average or the highest station.

The other ionosondes in the overview above, such as Athens, are shown for comparison only; they each have their own MUF, but do not drive the graph.

This is a deliberate choice. Each station measures slightly differently, and around the 27 MHz threshold the 11m verdict would otherwise keep jumping back and forth depending on which station you pick.

By consistently using a fixed reference, the picture remains stable and traceable.

If Ebre goes offline, the dashboard automatically switches to the next available fresh station — and the dashed line shifts accordingly, with the name of that station shown in the chart title.

Explanation new Skip-Info - 14-10-2026▶
A lot of work has been done on the Skip-Info on Gocrazy.nl. Here are the most important changes at a glance.

1. One clear verdict, based on real measurements
At the top you can see at a glance what the chance of skip on 11m is right now:
🟢 good,
🟠 moderate or
🔴 poor.
That verdict comes from real measurements from ionosondes in Europe. You can also see how old the measurement is.

2. The coloured bars per band
For each band (from 80m to 10m) there is a bar. The colour tells you instantly how things stand:

🟩 Green: wide open
🟨 Orange: marginal, the band is on the edge
🟥 Red: closed
With orange included, the chart now always matches the verdict at the top.

3. New: skip per direction
An opening towards Germany travels through a different part of the atmosphere than an opening towards Italy.
That is why you now see a separate verdict for each direction:
(This is an example from 14 October 2026, 14:00; on the site you always see the current situation.)

4. Your spots count
Below the verdict it now shows how many spots members have posted in the past hour, and from which countries. A spot is the best proof that the band really is open. Hearing someone from far away? Then post a spot!

5. Skip notifications by e-mail: calmer and smarter
You will no longer receive a pile of emails when the band keeps fluctuating on the edge.
New in your profile: quiet hours, for example no email between 23:00 and 07:00. If the band is still open after that, you will still receive the notification.

You can find the Skip-Info in the menu after logging in. Let us know what you think via the Messages button!

RST explanation.▶
The code consists of three digits, each saying something about the quality of the received signal. These are respectively:

R(eadability)
Readability is a subjective assessment of the intelligibility of the modulation.

Code Meaning
 1: Unreadable
 2: Barely readable
 3: Difficult to read
 4: Readable
 5: Perfectly readable
 Q5: Beautiful, unimprovable

S(ignal) is an objective measurement of signal strength using the signal meter (S-meter) of the receiving device, which of course needs to be calibrated.

Code Meaning
 0: Inaudible
 1: Almost inaudible
 2: Very weak
 3: Weak
 4: Good
 5: Reasonably strong
 6: Strong
 7: Moderately powerful
 8: Powerful
 9: Very powerful
 9+: Beautiful

T(one) is a subjective assessment of the 'tone' of the modulation. This assessment can be partially objectified by means of a spectrum analysis.

Code Meaning
 1: Rough
 2: Without musical character
 3: Low tone, slightly musical
 4: Slightly rounded, semi-musical
 5: Musical
6: Modulated, with a hint of carrier wave
7: Almost pure, still slightly modulated
8: Pure, with a hint of modulation
 9: Absolutely pure

Notes

The Aurora
R(eadability) and S(ignal) are over greater distances highly dependent on QRM (man-made interference), atmospheric conditions (propagation) and QRN (natural interference).
The latter are mainly the normal activity of the sun and sunspots, lightning and the aurora.

S(ignal) can also be expressed in other units, for example dBµV.

T(one) is sometimes omitted, unless the radio test specifically revolves around this setting. Normally the tone is correctly tuned once and then rarely changed afterwards.
